I Am A Rainbow Today

Fri Nov 14, 2008, 5:42 PM
Another one of my favorite songs. But that's beside the point. I've decided that 4 months is long enough, and you all need to be updated again.
Grin and bear it. :)

November 1st marked the end of marching season. Not really, just the end of competative marching season. If you didn't know, for the past 6 months I've been playing "La Fiesta Mexicana" in the front ensemble. Translation: I've been playing a mexican halftime show on percussion instruments. The last time we'll play the show is next Friday, at a playoff game. If our team wins, we'll be doing a "pep rally on the field", which means we're just gonna play cheers and stuff and not do much marching. This also means that I'll officially be back to the flute section. Although, by chair placement, I belong in symphonic band (the highest band right now), I'm 1st chair concert band on flute. When the second half of the school year starts in January, they'll add another band: Instrumental Tech., which will be the lowest band and they won't perform concerts. Although I am sad to be leaving my friends in the front ensemble, my fellow flute friends are welcoming me back with open arms.

Fortunately, to get me through concert season, I will be trying out for our Indoor Percussion group. Indoor Percussion is a condensed, inside version of marching band. Only the front ensemble and battery (plus marching cymbals) perform, and we use props and march on a mat. Youtube it. So, I'll be going right back to front ensemble, if I make it. Luckily, I have a good chance of making it as an actual performer this year (last year, I was simply on floor crew and did all the "behind the scenes" stuff). Our show this year is apparently going to be called "1", or something along the lines. The idea of this theme is that everything starts out with one idea, and ends with one result. The show will start out with our center snare (one of our drum captains) playing, then our other captain on tenors, and so on until everyone's playing. It's going to be a good year!

In other recent news, Obama was elected president. For some of you, this may be a sore subject. Others, it's their favorite. The reason I brought this up is because although I live in a McCain-strong area, I would've voted Obama. :)

With that all said and done, I'm doing fine. Life's good. And I hope it is for you, too.

Happy Thanksgiving for all you Americans!

I Came Here To Make You Dance Tonight...

Sun Jul 20, 2008, 11:50 AM
Gaaahhh, I love this song! Haha, anyways, I decided to tell you ungrateful people some more about my life, just because I'm bored and jittery and I can't sit still very well.

As you all know from reading my last journal, I've rudely abandoned my flute friends for percussion. "Rookie" camp [a.k.a basic percussion camp] went very well, although it wasn't the complete camp experience. We stayed inside. All day, every day. And you know what else rookie camp marked? FILLY HAS BEEN OUT OF BAND FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR. Yeah. It's was a very sad realization for me. :(
Anywho, during camp I gave myself a very bad steam burn. Like, I-should've-gone-to-the-hospital bad. I still have the scar. *sniffle* It makes me so proud!
I got sidetracked again. This past week was week 1 of my 3 week band camp: Percussion camp. This week is half-day band camp, from 8-12, and next week is full day band camp, from about 8 am to 9 pm. Unlike previous years, when we didn't have half-day band camp, we aren't going to stay at a college for a week. It'll all be on our home field this year on.
We finally got the opening piece for our halftime show last week. Of course, battery [drumline: tenors/quads, snares, basses] has had their entire show and all their cadences since basics camp [almost to perfection], and the band's had their show for a few weeks. Pit always get their music last, and it sucks. But for the first song, I'm on vibraphone. If you don't know what that is, google it. I personally hate it. At least it's only for the first song, though.
On the plus side of all of this, I'm increasing my musicianship and making tons of tight bonds with people. People, a year ago, I thought I'd never say a word to. But on the downside, I don't get to march, and I'm secluded to the exclusive cult. I hardly ever get to see my old friends. And I'll be limited to my 28-person crew until about January.

Now, since I know a lot of you don't give a crap about my band geek life... well, that's about everything that's been going on. I literally have no time for anything else. Especially now. But I don't care, because I enjoy it.

In other news, I know it has been a month. So, just as of about 5 seconds ago,I posted a new, yet UNBEARABLY CRAPPY "poem". I don't really like it, but I promised. And before I post any poems, I always go back and review some old poems. During this review, I noticed how almost all of my poems sound the same. I should changed that...

And now, since I can't think of anything else to talk about since I've tried to explain every little detail about drumline and pit and your BRAINS MIGHT EXPLODE WITH EXCITEMENT FOR ME if I tell you anymore, I shall take my leave!

Your friendly neighborhood band geek,
Angel

I'VE FOUND THE CURE FOR A BROKEN HEART!!!

Wed Jun 11, 2008, 3:27 PM
Okay, so not really. But at least it caught your attention. :D

Ahh, it's summer. And I only get one week off before band ruins my summer. Talk about the ultamite summer destroyer!

Anyhow, life's been good. You selfish people missed my birthday. Again. XD Got some money, that went straight to the bank. Oooh, I got American Graffiti. If you haven't seen it, GO RENT IT! Or Netflix-it. Or buy it. Whatever floats your boat. And, I got $50 in iTunes giftcards. Honestly, how am I going to find 50 songs to buy? Ahhhh!

Alas! This year, the band director decided that instead of marching flutes this year, two fellow up-and-coming sophomores and I are moving to percussion. I, along with the other girl, shall play mallets [marimba, xylophone, chimes, bells, toys, ect.], while the guy marches one of the basses. So, even though I won't be marching with my friends this year, I've got new challenges coming my way. But, unlike the other two, I have absolutely no percussion-al experience. Sadly, I'm even worse than the incoming freshmen. :( AND THEY'RE ALL GUYS! Joy.

So far this summer, I've beach-ed and boat-ed the first few days, and lazed around the last few. I babysat Saturday night, and will again tomorrow. 7 hours. Ugh! Fortunately, they're usually drunk when they pay me, and they pay $10 an hour. You do the math.

For all my fans out there who couldn't care less about my life and just want some poems, I do plan on writing something. Eventually. And no matter how crappy or pointless it is, I'll post it.

Ummm.... yup. I think that's about all I can say. Keep checking up for any new updates; can't say when they'll be, but it might be in a week or two. Maybe a month. Whatever.

ANGEL: BACK FROM THE UNDEAD

Sun Apr 27, 2008, 2:44 PM
So, I realized that the last journal I posted was July. '07. Being long overdue for a new journal and some news, I decided I have just enoug hextra time on my hands to do something about this!

1. Okay so I haven't written anything new in forever. I know this. Yet I'm not going to do anything about it. I have virtually no inspiration anymore. :(

2. The busiest thing in my life lately has been being in the Indoor Percussion ensemble at school. I was floor crew, but NEXT YEAR, I'M ALL OVER SOME MALLETS!!! YEEEEEAAAAHHHH!!!!!! ...Sadly, our last competition, taking place in Dayton Ohio, was April 15-20. This year, we moved up from Scholastic A class to Scholastic Open, which we weren't prepared for. There are three rounds: Prelims, Semi-Finals, and Finals. Regrettably, we didn't make it past Prelims. But it was okay, because we got to party continuously for the following 4 days. And who would pass up sitting in a hot tub and playing chicken in the pool with a bunch of nice, good-looking guys? Haha, seriously though. We'll miss our seniors next year, but I personally can't wait to get started!

3. The other day, we got signed for our classes next year. I'll be in:
Chemistry Honors
Algebra II Honors
English II Honors
French I
French II
Band (both semesters)
and the social studies class.
And because of that STUPID RETARDED NEW LAW, we'll start school at 9:15, and end at 3:45. Not so bad, right? Unless you're in marching band. At least twice a week, I'll have to get up at 5:30, leave the house at 6:30, just to get ready for MORNING MARCHING REHERSAL AT 7! Stupid Board of Education. -.-

4. DAYTON OHIO WITH 31 INDOOR MEMBERS IS AMAZING!!!

5. I've had to put up with a ton of crap from one person for the past 4 years, but I have finally gotten rid of her. In her place, I gained several new friends from Indoor. The good thing is, none of them are graduating this year! The bad thing is, some of them are graduating next year, and the rest are class of '10. I won't see any of them after my junior year. :( But it's okay, because we're all going to London together as a band, and we'll go to Dayton together for the next two years.

And yeah, that's about it.
So, until next time!

Blah . . .

I really hate doing jounals because I feel like I complain too much, but you're my friends, so . . . GRIN AND BEAR IT!

I'm back from DC! It was pretty cool. The only bad thing was we were with my dad's friend's family, which was fine 'cause I like his daughters, but his 12 year old son has like a huge crush on me or something 'cause he spent every night throwing pillows at me and sitting on my back. But me and Ali, his older sister (4 months younger than me) beat him up, so it was all good. The fireworks on the Fourth were beautiful, of course.

Band practice on Mondays and Thursdays starts this Monday. But my brother's going to be gone at camp for two weeks in a row, yay! :D

ON ANOTHER NOTE
I just realized, I've had this account for a year!!! BIG PARTY!!! This means I'll have to call up one, or some, of my buddies to have a sleepover.

And that's all I have to say about that.
